What you will learn

Are you aware that the demand for speech therapy among elderly individuals has been steadily increasing? Approximately 85% of patients diagnosed with acquired speech and language disorders have suffered a stroke. Among them, about 25% develop chronic swallowing difficulties post-stroke, and roughly 10% experience speech impairments. With the ongoing demographic shift, there's a rising number of individuals facing multiple health challenges, such as dementia, alongside stroke-related issues.

Moreover, there has been a continual rise in the need for speech therapy among children. Many children enter daycare, preschool, or school with speech difficulties. This often stems from a lack of speech stimulation or opportunities, or from not being exposed to a language-rich environment or interactions. Ideally, these challenges can be addressed through appropriate speech therapy interventions. Similarly, children struggling with language acquisition due to congenital speech disorders or developmental language disordersnlearning under challenging circumstances, alongside peers with or without language issues require comprehensive therapy support.

Throughout your academic journey, we'll delve into essential aspects of speech therapy, covering medical, linguistic, behavioral, and social sciences fundamentals. Moreover, we'll equip you with both theoretical insights and hands-on competencies in the realm of speech and language therapy, addressing disorders encompassing speech, language, voice, swallowing, communication, and hearing.

Within your undergraduate program, a particular emphasis lies on disorders related to language acquisition, including speech flow irregularities. Here, we engage in a critical analysis of designing, implementing, and assessing language enhancement programs tailored for late-talking children, commonly referred to as "late talkers." Additionally, a specialized focus is dedicated to neurogenic speech, language, and swallowing impairments. Across all diagnostic categories, practical training with patients forms an integral part, always grounded in evidence-based practices that integrate the latest research insights with optimal clinical experiences.

Exposure to interdisciplinary neuroscience findings not only enriches your knowledge base but also empowers you to transfer expertise and actively develop innovative therapeutic interventions. This prepares you to evaluate and incorporate emerging insights, ensuring you stay abreast of cutting-edge advancements to provide your patients with the most effective treatment modalities. Furthermore, your bachelor's program in speech therapy offers opportunities for personal growth, allowing you to explore interdisciplinary interests and expand your professional horizons.

Given the evolving landscape of the healthcare sector, cultivating additional managerial skills is essential to enhance competitiveness in the healthcare marketplace. Consequently, alongside foundational knowledge in medical law and business administration, you'll gain advanced insights into health and social systems, coupled with proficiency in project management, facilitation, and public speaking. This comprehensive training shapes your profile, molding you into a specialist in speech therapy and offering promising career prospects.

The dual study programme we offer is a full-time programme that includes both classroom teaching and practical training. In addition, it is important to allow extra time for preparation and follow-up work and for preparing for examinations.

Your personality counts, not just your grades. It is irrelevant whether you have achieved top grades in subjects such as sport or art when it comes to assessing your suitability as a speech and language therapist. As a private, state-approved educational institution, we independently determine our admission criteria and focus on you as an individual with all your drives and ambitions. That is why our Bachelor's degree programme in speech therapy is open to you without a numerus clausus (NC).

Our study concept enables you to complete both your academic studies and professional qualification in one place within 7 semesters.

From the second semester onwards, you will apply the knowledge you have learnt in lectures in practical situations in small groups. This close integration of academic education, practical experience and scientific knowledge forms the foundation for your successful entry into professional life and a promising career. Our teaching methods are based on the CORE principle of university didactics!

The number of participants in our study groups is limited to a maximum of 28 students. During the practical training phases, we practise in supervised small groups consisting of no more than 10 students. Patient work is carried out in teams of two, with one person acting as therapist and the other as co-therapist.
