What you will learn

Our healthcare system has undergone major changes in recent years, which are also noticeable in the field of physiotherapy. Thanks to the latest scientific findings and medical advances, physiotherapy is playing an increasingly important role in the treatment of new clinical pictures in the fields of neurology, paediatrics, surgery, internal medicine and orthopaedics. Against this background, physiotherapy is becoming increasingly important, particularly in prevention and rehabilitation. Increasing life expectancy, unhealthy lifestyles and the early development of children pose new challenges that all healthcare professionals, including physiotherapists, must face.

As a physiotherapist, you treat people in various life situations:

  • After accidents or sports injuries
  • For pain disorders
  • For diseases of the nervous system such as stroke, Parkinson's disease or multiple sclerosis
  • For diseases of internal organs such as cardiovascular diseases or vascular diseases
  • In preventive sports and exercise programmes

During your Bachelor's degree programme, you will deepen your knowledge of the structure, functioning and clinical pictures of the human body. You will also acquire knowledge of scientifically sound therapy methods that you can later apply in your professional practice. You will benefit from an excellent team of renowned professors who are nationally and internationally recognised experts in their field and who will look beyond the horizon with you. We also emphasise the development of your management skills: You will learn to plan and implement projects successfully and acquire basic leadership skills that may pave the way for you to open and manage your own physiotherapy practice.

You will encounter different groups of people in your day-to-day work - which is why we also teach you the right form of communication and various dialogue techniques. You will be trained to advise customers, patients and organisations on health-related issues and promote interdisciplinary exchange. You will also expand your knowledge of health economics and familiarise yourself with legal and business management principles.

Our university is characterised by practice-oriented lectures and skills-based teaching and learning, so that you will be confronted with practical issues relating to physiotherapy treatment throughout your studies.

Your career prospects

Our innovative approach that pays off

Our practice-oriented Bachelor's degree programme opens up a wide range of professional opportunities so that you can realise your career goals. You will have the chance to work in practices, clinics, rehabilitation centres and other healthcare facilities. You can choose whether you want to work in a therapeutic role or in management and advisory positions. Your Bachelor's degree also gives you a competitive advantage and allows you to work internationally.

After graduating, you will have a wide range of opportunities to work in the field of physiotherapy. These include, among others:

  • Hospitals
  • Outpatient practices
  • Nursing homes
  • Acute care hospitals
  • health resorts
  • Sports clubs
  • Therapy and rehabilitation centres
  • Health insurance companies
  • Facilities for people with disabilities

You can also open your own practice or pursue an academic career at a university or research institution after completing your studies.

Of course, you also have the option of completing a Master's degree programme after your Bachelor's degree. A Master's degree opens up the path to a doctorate.

Promote mobility and functionality

Our healthcare system has undergone significant changes in recent years, which have also impacted the field of physiotherapy. Thanks to the latest scientific discoveries and medical advancements, physiotherapy has assumed a progressively crucial role in treating emerging clinical conditions in neurology, pediatrics, surgery, internal medicine, and orthopedics. Consequently, physiotherapy is increasingly vital in pivotal areas of prevention and rehabilitation. With an aging population and the consequences of unhealthy lifestyles, coupled with the necessity to instill healthy habits in young children to avert future impairments, physiotherapy faces mounting importance.

These challenges impose new demands on the knowledge of all healthcare practitioners, including physical therapists, as they cater to individuals in vastly diverse life situations:

Your insight into studies and training

We checked it out for you.

Were you aware that in Germany, as per the Science Council's recommendation, 10 to 20% of each year's cohort should comprise academically qualified therapists?

On one hand, this is aimed at elevating the professional standing of therapy professions. This is crucial because the trend demonstrates that physiotherapists, in particular, play a pivotal role in diagnosing, preventing, and treating various medical conditions and symptoms by bridging the gap with modern medical knowledge. Consequently, we prioritize ensuring that your entire study duration is as practical as possible. We encourage innovative thinking, deliver application-oriented teaching, involve you in research projects, and foster practical engagement right from the outset.

On the other hand, academic qualifications are essential for international work opportunities as a physiotherapist. Through our Erasmus program, you have the chance to study abroad for a semester during your studies, enabling you to gain valuable international experience.

Linking practice and applied science

"The modern and professional approach to physiotherapy rests upon two crucial foundations. Firstly, it relies on the professional interaction between therapists and patients, and secondly, on the implementation and utilization of high-quality therapeutic methodologies rooted in scientific research. Physiotherapy is thus directed towards understanding the organ and functional systems of the body, as well as the individual's experiences and behaviors."

Prof. Dr. Tobias Erhardt, Program Director
